Although this truth is how I healed myself,
I learned it much earlier…
I just didn’t realize what it meant until now.

I was in middle school.
And the people who hurt me the most…
were the ones I thought never would.

My childhood friends - the ones I’d grown up with, trusted, shared everything with -turned on me.

Some mocked me behind my back.
Some lied to my face.
Some humiliated me in front of everyone.

Suddenly, I was living in constant anxiety.
I didn’t know how to act, how to breathe, how to move - because I was always being watched, judged, made fun of.

Until one day, something shifted.

They could create drama.
They could spread rumors.
They could say whatever they wanted.

But they didn’t get to be in charge of how I responded - not in my body, and not in my behavior.

So I stopped shrinking.
I started calming my nervous system.
I brought myself back to presence.
And from that energy, I created new friendships… and a new reality.

And the part that stayed with me most?
The apologies came after I no longer needed them.
Because I had already found my freedom.
